Oh, these icelandics!
What is it about Iceland that makes them produce such beautifully strange music? For a long time, Iceland meant Björk, and we do not question her importance. The island always had that genius, the madman who goes by the name of Mugison. Then, Sigur Rós came into the picture and we all realized the island hid much more than we thought, having Múm to prove us right. We still need to pay more attention to bands such as Ghostigital (from former Sugarcubes member Einar Örn Benediktsson), Trabant, the boys from Aela, or the beautiful (and still unsigned) Hellvar. The latest contribution those frozen lands have launched into our ears is another beautiful and strange creature called Benni Hemm Hemm. Their debut album, released in the continent by Morr Music, is a collection of intricately woven sad pearls. There must be something about staying indoors so long. I could love it on a wheelchair. – Ricardo Domeneck
